OBITUARY.

Jesse S. Baxter, formerly of Banta, was born in Ohio, September 12, 1827, and moved to Indiana when a boy. He united with the M.E. church and was converted at the age of 23 years. He was united in marriage to Eliza Jane Helton, Aug. 4, 1850. To this union eleven children were born—six sons and five daughters—all of whom survive him. His wife died Jan. 7, 1885. He was again married March 17, 1886 to Alice Hope. No children were born to this union and this wife survives him. He had 40 grandchildren, of whom, 32 are living and 5 great grandchildren of whom 3 are living. He was 72 years, 10 months and 24 days old. After a lingering illness of 22 days at his son Peter’s, of Martinsville, he passed away. He bore his sickness and pain in the most triumphant way and was a follower of the Master. He was heard to say during his illness that he wanted to die for the he was at peace with God. This should be a blessed example to his relatives and many friends. We are sorry to lose him but our loss is his gain. His remains were laid to rest by the side of his former wife Aug. 8 at Mt. Nebo cemetery, in Morgan county. Rev. Sidebottom, of Waverly, conducted the services.

Grand-daughter.
