John William ‘Billy’ Arnold

John William “Billy” Arnold, 68, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Morgan Hospital and Medical Center. He was a resident of Morgantown in Brown County.

He was born June 23, 1933, in Stevenson, Ala. His parents were William H. and Clara J. Arnold. He married Molly E. Arnold on Jan. 26, 1952, in Rossville, Ga. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Kenny W., Willie H. and Bobby C. Arnold, all of Morgantown; two sisters, Syble R. Smith and Joann Garraux, both of Morgantown; two brothers, Clinton Arnold of Detroit, Mich., and Thomas Arnold of Warren, Mich.; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. He was pre­ceded in death by a grandson, William “B. J.” Arnold; and two brothers, Eddie and Jack Arnold.

He was employed as a painter at Allison Gas Turbine for 16 years, retiring in 1993. He was previously employed as a painter for Painters Union Local 47 for 26 years.

He was a member of Centennial Baptist Church in Stevenson, Ala., and Nashville Masonic Lodge 135. He was past master at Morgantown Masonic Lodge and vice president of the Hamblen Township Civic League.

He enjoyed woodworking and shopping at yard sales.

The Revs. Fred and Henry Wagler will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where Nashville Masonic Lodge will conduct a Masonic memor­ial service at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Unity Church Cemetery in Brown County.
