Death of Mrs. S. S. Whitesides.

Mrs. S. S. Whitesides, formerly Conover, died at her home in this city on Friday evening, at 4:30 o’clock, of consumption. She had been sick for several months with that dread disease whose fangs had fastened themselves upon her constitution with a death grip until all that was mortal of her went down before this sure destroyer of human life.

She was born in Shelby county, in the neighborhood of Second Mt. Pleasant, in 1848 and had since resided in that vicinity until about three years ago, when she removed to Franklin with her husband, where she had become known and esteemed for her many excellent qualities. She joined Second Mt. Pleasant Baptist church at the age of eleven and had not only lived consistent and devoted but had been every ready to assist in advancing the interests of the church, an active and highly esteemed member.

She was married to S. S. Whitesides in 1871, who with one daughter and only child survive her. Her remains were taken to Second Mt. Pleasant, the church of her childhood devotion, followed by a large delegation of friends, where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hucklebery, [sic] of Aurora, Ind, assisted by Rev. P. O. Duncan, pastor of that church. A very large crowd of friends from her old neighborhood had assembled at the church to pay their last respects, and after the services, which were very impressive her remains were borne by six brothers of the deceased’s husband to their last resting place in the beautiful cemetery there overlooking the placid waters of Sugar Creek.
