Strather [sic] Vandivier died at his home two miles west of this city yesterday morning at 9 o’clock, of dia­betes, after a lingering illness of many months. He was 78 years old and was among the oldest inhabitants of the county. Mr. Vandivier was one of our prominent democratic farmers and leaves a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his death. The funeral services will be held at the family re­sidence this afternoon at three o’clock and the remains will be interred in Mt. Pleasant cemetery.

On May 22d Uncle Strather [sic] Vandivier departed this life after a long and severe illness. The funeral services were conducted at his residence after which his remains were buried at Mt. Pleasant. In his death the church has lost a faithful member, his children a devoted and loving father and the com­munity a much respected and influential citizen as well as a faithful and lifelong democrat.
