Obituary.

Lucy A. Cole was born in the State of Kentucky, August 29, 1831, and died Dec 20 [sic], 1894. Age sixty-three years, three months, and twenty-six days. She emigrated to this state with her parents at the age of five years, and resided in the immediate vicinity of her late home, until called away by death. She was united in marriage to Peter P. Vandivier, March 15, 1851, and from this union there were eight children, five girls and three boys, six of whom lived to be grown. Two preceded her to the grave. There is left to mourn their loss, her husband, six children, sixteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She united with the Baptist church at Trafalgar in the year 1849, afterwards moved her membership to Beech Grove, of which she remained a member until called to the church above. She endured many trials and hardships in this life, but they are all over now, and she has entered into the eternal city where there will be no more trials or sorrow to endure. Her truly devoted husband, her children and other kind friends did all in ministering to her needs in affliction that it was possible for them to do. She bore with Christian patience and fortitude, intense suffering, manifesting her sweet, unselfish disposition, when enduring great pain, and looked after the comfort of others. She was a kind affectionate mother and neighbor always ready to lend a helping hand to those in distress. To the weeping children who so tenderly cared for mother, weep not. She has gone to that home of rest which remains for the people of God. May God in his mercy, give grace and strength, that when death comes, you may press a dying pillar as mother did.

Sleep on dear mother
Thy trials are past,
Thy presence was sweet,
While life did last.

Our Saviour has called thee
To that beautiful home
Prepared for his children
When their labor is done.
