OBITUARY.

Departed this life Sept. 19, 1896, Bessie F., little daughter of W. B. Vanarsdall and wife, of throat trouble. Little Bessie was a bright child in her eighth year, and promised many happy days of usefulness to her parents, but death came and claimed her for its own. She will be much missed by her little schoolmates when they recall the school days of old, when Bessie and little brother would come tripping to school hand in hand.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community, and may find some comfort in the sweet thought that this is only another jewel called from earth to heaven to join the happy angels around the throne of God.

The lines from Longfellow’s “Rainy Day” seem appropriate here:

“Be still, sad heart, and cease repining,
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining.
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.”

Note: The Johnson County Indiana WPA Birth Index, 1882–1920, referencing Book H-2, page 176, records that a white female infant was born to W. B. Vanarsdall and Mary Slack on 16 Dec 1888.
