Death of War Veteran.

Thomas J. Turpin, whose death occurred Wednesday at noon, was the son of Nathan and Sarah Tur­pin, and was born in Kentucky, December 4th 1841. With his par­ents he came to Indiana when a boy of fifteen years. Locating at Martinsville, from that place he went to join the eighteenth regi­ment and served three years, during which time he was discharged because of sickness, but reenlisted and was discharged the second time on account of sickness.

It was the exposure encountered during the war that finally caused his death.

He was married to Rachel E. Jackson in this city, March 11th, 1868 and to this union two children were born, Charles Turpin of Fort Worth, Texas and Adda, who died in infancy. Mr. Turpin was an earnest Christian man and his death is deeply mourned. He was a member of the Franklin Christian church for a long period of years. He served as janitor of the old Christian church at the corner of Yandes and Madison streets for twenty years.  Deceased was a brick mason by trade.  Mr. Turpin is also survived by two grandchil­dren, Guy E. and Christine Turpin of Fort Worth.

The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon  from the home at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. W. J. Wright. A message received Thursday morning from Charles Turpin, states that he has started for this city and will arrive here Friday evening.
