OBITUARY.

Josiah Trout was born in Augusta county, Virginia, August 13, 1826, and died in Johnson county, Ind., January 19, 1897. In September 1838, his parents came to Indiana and located in Floyd county. After residing there for a few months they came to Johnson county in February 1839, and settled in Pleasant township. His father was killed by falling a tree April 4, 1846, and his mother died February 3, 1877. After the death of his father he remained at home and assisted in earning a livelihood for his widowed mother, brothers and sisters until his marriage. He was married to Nancy Jane Dowden, Dec. 27, 1855. To them were born nine children, six boys and three girls, the eldest, a girl, died in infancy. The remainder of the family survive to mourn the loss of a kind, indulgent father. Mr. Trout was honest, upright, industrious and economical. At the time of his death he owned 100 acres of tillable land which he purchased and paid for by thrift and economy. He was a kind neighbor and a good citizen. Although not a member of any church he appreciated the value of a church in a community and was always willing to help support the church with his money. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jones, pastor of the M. E. church of Whiteland.
