Ruth B. Townsend 
      Ruth B. Townsend, 97, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at St. 
Francis Hospital & Health Centers in Beech Grove.  She was 
a longtime resident of Franklin. 
      She was born Oct. 5, 1903, in Bloomington.  Her parents 
were Samuel and Bessie (Burton) Beaman.  She married Harry 
W. Townsend on June 11, 1933.  He preceded her in death Oct. 
25, 1981.  Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Lee Townsend 
of Trafalgar and Stanley G. Townsend of Franklin; five grand-
children; and six great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in 
death by a sister and two brothers.
      She was a 1921 graduate of Monrovia High School and 
also graduated from Franklin College.  She attended graduate-
level classes at Ball State Teacher's College in Muncie and at 
Indiana University in Bloomington. 
      She was a teacher in Franklin schools and taught home 
economics and physical education at the Indiana Masonic Home 
until 1933. 
      She was a member of Union Christian Church and also taught 
Sunday school there.  She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority 
at Franklin College.  She was also a member of Franklin OED 
439, Johnson County Homemakers Association and Johnson 
County Farm Bureau. 
      The Rev. Paul Palusko will conduct a service at 2 p.m. Wednes-
day at Union Christian Church.  Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. 
Tuesday at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin and from 
1 p.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church.  Burial will 
be at First Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin. 
      Memorial contributions may be made to Union Christian Church 
Memorial Fund, 1267 E. 300S, Franklin IN 46131; or Indiana 
Masonic Home, 690 S. State St., Franklin, IN 46131.
