OBITUARY.

Mary Prather was born in southern Ind., Dec. 19th, 1813 and departed this life Feb. 22, 1891. She was the daughter of William and Lettice Prather, and was married to Thomas Prather Jan. 9th, 1830. Her husband died March 5th, 1872. There was born unto them ten children four of whom are dead, three passing away in infancy. At present there are four daughters living and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. Ary J. Alexander, of Samaria, Mrs. Eliza Bridges, of Trafalgar, Mrs. Rachael Bridges, of Kansas, and Mrs. Mary Hines, of Martinsville. The two sons are William, of Ohio, and Hiram, of Mooresville. At present there are living twenty-six grandchildren, and forty great grandchildren. The deceased united with the Methodist Episcopal church at the age of thirteen. She was fond of revival meetings in which she always took a prominent part and was an able speaker on religious matters, being familiar with all parts of the scriptures and interpreted their meaning in an able manner.

In her youth she was a hard worker and made a thrifty and economical wife, and a consistent mother, ever ready to do her part as a neighbor, being very kind and sympathetic in sickness. In fact, her life was an exemplary one for anyone to follow.

During the latter part of her life she suffered much, having received an injury from falling from which she never recovered, but bore her sufferings with patience, and when compelled to know she would soon stand in the presence of the unknown was of that faith that ever characterizes the spirit of a Christian at the end of life.

Now as one more of our friends and relatives has departed for that eternal home where we all shall soon be, let us try to live a better and nobler life so when we too shall be called to give an account of the deeds done in the flesh we can be called as the chosen ones to sit on the right hand of the omnipotent God.
