Suicide of Miss Bettie Peggs.

––––

Miss Bettie, daughter of the late Jacob Peggs, took a dose of morphine with suicidal intent on Saturday evening about eight o’clock, at her room in the Rose House, from the effects of which she died on Sunday evening at seven o’clock.

She accompanied a Miss Rose to the circus on Saturday evening, where she remained only about half an hour, when she returned to her room at the hotel and took the fatal dose of morphine, after which she went to the hotel office and engaged in a conversation with the occupants. She talked only for a short time, when the drug took effect on her and she fell from her chair, to the floor, was picked up and carried to her room and Drs. Jones and Donnell immediately sent for, but upon their arrival they informed the friends that there was no possible hope for her recovery. She remained in an unconscious condition up to her death.

In her room was found a small quantity of morphine and a teaspoon.

It is supposed that imaginary financial trouble caused her to take her own life.

She was about sixty years of age and had resided in Franklin nearly all her life.

Funeral services were held at the Rose House on Monday afternoon.
