OBITUARY.

Nancy Hardesty was born near Lexington, Ky., August 14, 1817, and died Jan 8, 1899, aged 81 years, 4 months and 25 days.

August 22, 1838, she married Thomas Patterson, coming into his home to be a mother to his motherless children. She so faithfully filled this place of wife and mother that these children will ever honor the memory of her whose deeds of kindness and acts of love will ever remain a blessed memory with them.

They settled on the farm where they lived many years, sharing the toil, privations and hardships of a pioneer life. In 1888 they celebrated their golden wedding, and then a few more years the Lord let them share the joys of this life, then called the aged companion, then in his 93 year, to come to his reward.

Six children were born to them, four of whom survive the mother, viz: Francis H., Benjamin F., Zerilda and Mrs. John McIntire. They are sad and lonely because a dear mother has left them, and this makes a vacancy earth cannot fill. Beside the children there are sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters and many other relatives, friends and neighbors who mourn the loss of a good and noble woman.

She was one of the petitioners for the organization of a Presbyterian church, which church was organized in 1842. Since that time she has been a faithful member of the church of her choice. Though of a quiet, unassuming disposition her everyday life bore many marks of a true Christian character. Although our hearts are sad and lonely and we miss her very much, we feel the Lord has only claimed His own and she has entered the haven of rest and received the “Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of thy Lord.”

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Holly, assisted by Rev. P. O. Duncan, at the New Pisgah church, Jan. 1, 1899. The pall bearers were grandsons, with E. G. Barnhizer funeral director. Burial at Hurricane cemetery.
