Rev. R. M. Parks, who formerly resided in our city, died at his home in Bedford, this state, on Monday night of Bright’s disease after a lingering illness of many months. Prof. Hall and wife, who is a daughter of the deceased, left Tuesday morning to attend the funeral. Mr. Parks was born on the 16th of December, 1815, and for over half a century was an active and prominent minister of the Baptist church. During his residence in this city from 1870 to the fall of 1874, he took an active interest in the welfare of Franklin College, and was one of the number who contributed liberally of his time and money to perfect the present organization. He was an affectionate husband, an indulgent father and a devoted Christian gentleman whose death will cause a pang of grief to a very large circle of friends in addition to numerous relatives.
