OBITUARY.

Laura J., daughter of John and Caroline Owens was born May 3, 1858 and calmly fell asleep in Jesus on the evening of January 6, 1893, at the home of her father, near Needham, Indiana, aged thirty-four years, eight months and three days. During the pastorate of Rev. W. T. Jolly, she made a public profession of Christ as her personal Savior and united with the Second Mt. Pleasant Baptist church February 20, 1880.From early childhood she possessed a delicate constitution and many and varied remedies were sought and tried that she might gain health and strength. All that willing hands and loving hearts could do was done, and yet her disease baffled medical skill, and she passed the bourne and entered the great beyond from whence none ever return. She was an intense sufferer for several months before her death, but she bore her suffering with marked patience and Christian strength and was not afraid to die, for as she told her father, “The Lord will care for me for I have trusted his promises.’ As her vision darkened and shut away earthly friends, she murmured, “Oh what a beautiful light,” and calmly entered life eternal. Again has the family circle been broken, her chair is empty, her face and form we will miss, no more will we hear her footsteps as she passes to and fro ministering to those about her, for another life is finished, another spirit has returned to its maker and while we bow to the inevitable may we be able to truly say “Thy will be done.” “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.” Blessed be his name. Funeral services were conducted by her pastor Rev. P. O. Duncan, January 8, at Second Mt. Pleasant church after which her wasted form was carried out by seven cousins, all of the name of Owens, and laid to rest in our beautiful city of the dead.
