OBITUARY.

Samuel Nash, Sr., was born in Mercer county, Ky., April 11, 1821, and departed this life Feb. 14, 1898, aged 76 years, 10 months and 3 days. He was married to Minerva Jane Selch in 1845. They came to Johnson County about 1854. To this union were born eleven children, five of whom have gone on before, one dying in infancy. The mother departed this life, Jan. 29, 1868, at the age of 42 years, with implicit faith in Christ. Brother Nash was married to Mrs. Eliza Durham, Feb. 19, 1876, who now survives him. He united with the M. E. church of Highland, near Amity, about 1854, where he served as class leader and a faithful member until the church was abandoned. He then, with his wife, transferred his membership to the Shiloh C. P. church, Feb. 26, 1867. He was an active member for many years, but for some unknown cause he did not attend public worship of later years. He was free to converse on the subject of religion, and always expressed a firm hope in the salvation of Christ. About two years ago, when asked by his daughter, Mary, on her death bed, if the Lord should call him away at any time if he was ready to go, he replied he was ready to go at any time and would meet her in heaven. The Lord called Brother Nash when least expected. He was a faithful husband, a loving, indulgent father, a good, upright citizen, and an obliging neighbor. He leaves a wife, seven children, and many friends to mourn their loss. May our loss be his gain. May we heed this another admonition, “Prepare to meet thy God.” “Be ye also ready.”
