Bessie Marie Barker McClain
BESSIE MARIE BARKER McCLAIN, 91, Greenwood, died Wednes-
day.  She was an orthopedic technician 30 years for the 
orthopedic shoe department of L.S. Ayres & Co., Indianapolis, 
retiring in 1976.  She was a member of Greenwood Christian 
Church.  Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Wilson St. 
Pierre Greenwood Chapel, with calling until 9 tonight.  
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  She was the widow 
of Clyde Thomas McClain.  Survivors: son Clyde Wayne McClain; 
daughters Rosemond Mayer, Phyllis Richeson, Wanda Bilbrey; nine
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

GREENWOOD
Bessie M. McClain
      Bessie Marie McClain, 91, died Wednesday at St. Francis Hospital 
and Health Centers in Beech Grove.  She was a resident of Greenwood.
      She was born Jan. 19, 1903, in Johnson County.  Her parents were 
William D. Barker and Cora (Coffman) Barker.  She was married to 
Clyde Thomas McClain.  He preceded her in death.  Survivors include 
a son, Clyde Wayne McClain of Greenwood; three daughters, Rose-
mond Mayer of Bradenton, Fla., Phyllis Richeson of McCordsville, and 
Wanda Bilbrey of Greenwood; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grand-
children; and a great-great-grandchild.  She also was preceded in 
death by a brother and a sister.
      She was employed as an orthopedic technician in the orthopedic 
shoe department in the L.S. Ayres downtown Indianapolis store for 
30 years, retiring in 1976.  She also had been a sales associate at the 
L.S. Ayres store at Greenwood Park Mall for several years after her 
retirement.
      She was a member of Greenwood Christina Church and the L.S. 
Ayres Retiree Club.
      The Rev. Shan Rutherford will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Satur-
day at Wilson St. Pierre Greenwood Chapel.  Friends may call from 
4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Greenwood 
Cemetery.
