J. R. MCCASLIN DIES AT FRANKLIN

John R. McCaslin, eighty-two years old, died at the Masonic Home at Franklin, at four o’clock Monday morning January 30th. The body was brought to this city [North Vernon] to the Fletcher Dowd funeral parlor and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. L. V. Rule. The burial took place in the Springer Cemetery at Elizabethtown. Ritualistic services were conducted by the Masonic Lodge.

John R. McCaslin was a resident of this city for many years and during his active years he was employed as section foreman on the Pennsylvania Railroad. After his retirement from the railroad he was elected recorder of Jennings County and served one term. About five years ago, after the death of his daughter Miss Mabel McCaslin, he entered the Masonic Home, but he visited this city frequently and retained legal residence here. He had a wide circle of acquaintances and friends and was held in high esteem by all who knew him.

He is survived by one brother, Bert McCaslin of Monett, MO; one sister, Mrs. R. D. Carson of Logansport; and one half sister, Mrs. Lizzie Summers of Chillicothe, Ill., also by a number of nephews and nieces.
