Mrs. Mayfield dies Saturday

Mrs. Mable Hamblen Mayfield, 79, Franklin route three, died Saturday at Johnson County Memorial Hospital after a 10-year illness.

Born May 8, 1900 in Brown County, Mrs. Mayfield was the daughter of A. Porter and Mary J. (Anderson) Hamblen. She married Edgar C. Mayfield May 8, 1925 and he preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1978.

A graduate of Franklin High School and Franklin College, Mrs. Mayfield attended the University of Wisconsin and was a former teacher in the Clark Township schools.

A member of the American College Gymnastics Union, she was also a member of Union Christian Church, former treasurer and member of Nineveh Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star No. 466 and the Union Mothers Club.

Services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne Markward will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and friends may call after 2 p.m. today.

There will be an Eastern Star Memorial Service Monday night at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include one son, R. William Mayfield, Akron, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Jane Betts, Franklin; Mrs. Erma Glick, Hartsville; Mrs. Eunice V. Lowe, Westport; one brother, J.B. Hamblen, Nashville, 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Union Christian Church Memorial Fund.
