Week’s Illness Fatal
to Mary C. Mathena

Mrs. Mary C. Mathena, 540 South Gharkey Street, died at 3:45 o’clock yesterday morning at Ball Hospital after a week’s illness. She was employed in the Chevrolet-Muncie cafeteria and formerly worked at the Superior Laundry.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon at the Flinn Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. The body was removed yesterday to Franklin from the Plepho Funeral Home.

Are Set For Friday

Death came to Mrs. Mary Chand­ler Mathena, age 41, at Ball Mem­orial Hospital, Muncie, Wed­nesday morning at 4 o’clock.

She had been ill for the past three weeks and after developing pneumonia was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening at 5 o’oclock.

Funeral services will be con­ducted at the Flinn mortuary Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with the Rev. Golden A. Smith, pastor of the Grace Methodist church in charge. Burial will be in Greenlawn ceme­tery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday afternoon from 3 to 5 o’clock and in the evening from 7 to 9 and are invited to attend the rites.

Active In Church

Mrs. Mathena was born in John­son county on June 1, 1908, the daughter of Lewis and Katherine Coffman Chandler. Most of her life had been spent in Franklin where she had attended the public schools.

She became the wife of Donnel Mathena on March 19, 1927, and was the mother of three children.

A member of the Grace Metho­dist church, she had taken an active part in its program and had been a teacher of the high school class.

Surviving with Mr. Mathena, are the two daughters, Miss Betty Ma­thena, at home; Mrs. James Charles, of Franklin; the son, Donnell Ma­thena, at home; the parents, of Mun­cie; one grandson, Lloyd Dale Charles; two sisters, Mrs. John Hefley and Mrs. Archie Short, of Muncie.
