Funeral services for Virgil Joseph Mason, R.R. 1, Franklin, were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Harvey Funeral Home at Mooresville.

The services were in charge of the Rev. Wayne Cowen, pastor of the Needham United Methodist church, and the Rev. Gary Coan, former church pastor there. Burial was made in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery in White River township, with grandsons carrying the casket.

Mr. Mason had been ill for two weeks and died in the Johnson County Memorial hospital Friday.

The son of the late William and Mary Jane Vandergriff Mason, Mr. Mason was born in Johnson county on March 22, 1890.

Twice married, his first wife was Bessie Skaggs and six children were born to them. Mrs. Mason died on May 13, 1957. Later he married Della Brawner.

A life resident of Johnson county, Mr. Mason had been a farmer. He was a member of the Needham United Methodist church.

The widow survives with three daughters and three sons, Mrs. Martha Pauley, Mrs. Mary Cherry, Maurice Mason, of Martinsville; Mrs. Dorothy Lane, Paul Mason, of Monrovia; and Floyd Mason, Mooresville.

Four step-daughters, Mrs. Goldie Robinette, Mrs. Martha Ratliff, of Greenwood; Mrs. Gertrude Duncan, of Indianapolis; Mrs. Zelpha Rasdall, of Providence; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Emma Pettit, of Rushville, remain.
