S. B. McGill [sic], whose serious ill­ness was mentioned last week, died Thursday night, after but ten day sick­ness. He was taken with catarrhal fever which induced heart trouble resulting in death. Deceased was a young man of excellent character and his death is a loss not only to the family but to the community as well. No young man was held in higher esteem. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. L. P. Marshall.

Rev L. P. Marshall was called home from Turkey Lake to conduct the funeral services of Sam McGill [sic], and on Sunday morning preached at the usual hour. He returned to the Lake Monday morning.

Melville Ryker and sister, Mrs. Jessie Branham of Indianapolis, attended the funeral of S. B. McGill [sic], Saturday.

Note: The Johnson County Indiana WPA Death Index, 1882–1920 page 123, referencing Book H-18, page 4, records that S. B. Magill, a twenty-two-year-old white male, died 16 Jul 1896 in Franklin.
