ELIZABETH LUYSTER.

Relict of Cornelius Luyster, departed this life April 20th, aged 94 years, 7 months and 11 days. Deceased was the daughter of Josiah and Nancy Utley, of Mercer county, Kentucky. She was born September 9th, 1796, and married March 4th, 1818. She was the mother of eleven children, all of whom were married and raised families, before death made its appearance in her family. Seven children still survive, while four have preceded her to the grave.

Upon her removal from Kentucky to Johnson county, September, 1830, she traveled the entire distance on horseback, carrying Mrs. Susan Paris, then an infant, in her arms. At the time of her death, which occurred in the family homestead, at the residence of her son, John P. Luyster,—(she and her husband were the only deaths occurring on the place in a period of sixty years)—she was grandmother of sixty-six children, fifty-five living and eleven dead; great-grandmother of one hundred and fifty-two children, one hundred and twenty-five living and twenty-five dead; great-great-grandmother of twenty-eight children, twenty-three living and five dead.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyster [sic Luyster] became members of “The Church of Christ” being immersed by Elder Thomas Coyle, 1828, and lived and died honored and faithful members in the triumphs of a living faith.

Their home was open for the entertainment of every God-fearing man who sought to maintain the truth. Here the pioneer preacher found rest and refreshment in his work of faith, patience and hope, and labor of love.
