Mildred (Dirks) Loew
  Mildred (Dirks) Loew, 96, died
Saturday, May 21, 2005. She
was a resident of Greenwood.
  She was born July 3, 1908, in
Indianapolis. Her parents were
Edward and Anna (Bloemker)
Dirks. She married William C.
Loew. He preceded her in
death. Survivors include a
brother, Edward Dirks of
Greenwood; three nieces and a
nephew. She was preceded in
death by a sister, Helen
Schenkel.
  She received her bachelor’s
degree from Butler University
in 1929 and her master’s
degree from Indiana University
in 1932.
  She taught mathematics and was
dean of girls at Thomas Carr
Howe High School in
Indianapolis from 1939 until
her retirement in 1969. She
also taught mathematics for
six years at Mount Vernon High
School and for three years at
junior high schools in
Indianapolis.
  She was a member of the
Johnson County Retired
Teachers Association and
Immanuel United Church of
Christ in Indianapolis. She
also was a member of Delta
Gamma Sorority.
  A service will be conducted at
1 p.m. Tuesday at G.H.
Herrmann Madison Avenue
Funeral Home, 5141 Madison
Ave. in Indianapolis. Friends
may call from 11 a.m. until
service time Tuesday at the
funeral home. Burial will be
at Memorial Park Cemetery in
Indianapolis.
