Final rites for James William Law, 78, were held from the Burkhart Funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. Mr. Law died at the Masonic Home hospital in Franklin Friday afternoon of last week, after being in failing health for about eight years. He had been in the hospital 10 months.
The Rev. J. Kenneth Forbes, pastor of the Greenwood Methodist church, officiated at the services. Mrs. Joseph Totten played the piano at the rites. Burial followed in the Greenwood cemetery with Masonic services at the grave. Pallbearers were past Masters of Greenwood Lodge number 514 F. and A.M. They were Gerald Tinkle, S. E. Wright, Freddy Ross, Bert VanArsdale, Russell Moore and Albert Adams.
The deceased was born on a farm two miles southeast of Greenwood on June 4, 1870 to Benjamin and Frances Browning Law. He attended grade school number six and the Bagby school. For 13 years Mr. Law was employed by Indiana Bell Telephone. Later he became an employee of the Interstate Public service company, where he worked for 17 years. On January 1, 1898 he was married to Miss Jessie L. Park, who survives her husband.
Others remaining are a son, Duane Law, of Greenwood and a daughter, Mrs. Fox Thompson, of Greenwood. Also surviving are two half-brothers, George Law, of Covington and Grover C. Law of Franklin and one half-sister, Mrs. Edward Bradley, of Fairland. The deceased had two grandchildren and one stepgrandson.
Mr. Law was well-known and liked in Greenwood having lived in the community all of his life. A member of the Masonic lodge in Greenwood for 38 years, Mr. Law became a Past Master in 1921.
