Burned to a Crisp.

Mrs. Lulu [sic] J. Kerlin, residing near the college, was burned yesterday morning about 9:30 o’clock and died from the effects of her injuries at 1:20 p.m.

Her clothes caught fire from a grate while sitting in front of it. As soon as Mrs. Kerlin discovered her clothing was on fire she ran out of the house to a neighbor’s but found no one at home. After running through two or three rooms she went to another neighbor’s. By that time her clothing was all burned off and she was burned from her feet to her head almost to a crisp and presented a horrible appearance. The nails and flesh of her fingers and arms fell off. Her entire body was burned so that the flesh peeled off in places.

Mrs. Kerlin was the widow of John Kerlin, deceased, an old resident of Union township. For many years she had been a resident of Franklin.
