Virginia Jeanette “Momma Bear” Karres, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at her residence in Indianapolis.

She was born June 22, 1921, in Jasonville. Her parents were Levi and Effie (Rosser) Stokes. Survivors include four sons, Ronald Young, Jerry Young, Michael Young and John Karres, all of Indianapolis; three daughters, Karen Gilbert of Franklin and Myrtle Angel and Linda Shanahan, both of Indianapolis; a brother, Howard Stokes of Indianapolis; a sister, Betty Johnson of Florida; a caregiver, Marie Smith; 23 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She graduated from Jasonville High School.

She was employed by Joytime Amusements in Indianapolis for 20 years and by Dillans Bakery in Indianapolis for three years.

A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St. in Indianapolis. Burial will be at Round Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.
