JAMES HOLMES.

––––

Dr. James Holmes, aged 73 years, died Tuesday evening at six o’clock at his residence in West Franklin. He has for many years been a sufferer from consumption which was the final cause of his death. Mr. Holmes was born in Jefferson county, Ind., graduated at the medical college at Indianapolis and began the practice of medicine in Shelby county. In 1856 he came to Franklin where he established the first cash store ever carried on in this city. His mercantile career was a success. He retired from business several years ago. For forty-five years he was an exemplary member of the Christian church, fulfilling many of its important trusts. The funeral occurred Wednesday at three p.m. at his late residence, conducted by Elder T. M. Wiles, after which the remains were sent to Seymour for burial.
