Charles L. Harlan, 79, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Greenwood Health and Living Center. He was a resident of Indianapolis. He was born Feb. 11, 1922, in Indianapolis. His parents were William Fred and Hallie (Pulliam) Harlan. He married Ruth E. (Denny) Harlan on Jan. 17, 1942, in Indianapolis. She preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Michael Harlan of Houston, Texas; four daughters, Patricia Wirey of Greenwood, Cathy Harlan of Indianapolis, Peggy Martin of Greenwood and Tammy Quirey of Boonville; two brothers, Carl Harlan of New Mexico and Jack Harlan of Noblesville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

He was employed as a furniture repairman for 10 years at Ethan Allen Galleries in Indianapolis and Evansville, retiring in 1982. He was previously employed as a warehouse manager for 29 years by Wm. H. Block Co.

He was a 34-year member of Capital City Baptist Church in Indianapolis.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, discharged as a sergeant on Dec. 5, 1945.

A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Capital City Baptist Church in Indianapolis. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until service time Friday at the church. Burial will be at Round Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. Arrangements are being handled by G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home in Indianapolis.

Charles L. Harlan, 79, Indianapolis, died Jan. 21. He worked 29 years for Blocks department stores, retiring as warehouse manager in 1972. After retirement, he was a furniture repairman 10 years for Ethan Allen Galleries. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. Services: 1 p.m. Jan. 25 in Capital City Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with calling there from 4 to 8 p.m. Jan. 24 and from noon Jan. 25. Burial: Round Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. He was the widower of Ruth E. Denny Harlan. Survivors: children Patricia Wirey, Michael, Cathy Harlan, Peggy Martin, Tammy Quirey; brothers Carl, Jack Harlan; six grandchildren; three great-grandsons. G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
