Margaret Lorraine Handy

Margaret Lorraine Handy, 88, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at Homeview Nursing
Home in Franklin.

She was born Oct. 15, 1918, in Johnson County to the late Ernest R. and Nannie
(Smith) Morris. She married Wayne E. Handy on Jan. 16, 1943, and he preceded her
in death.

She is survived by two sons, Morris W. "Moe" (Shari) Handy of Greenwood and
William E. "Bill" (Chris) Handy of Columbia, Tenn.; a daughter, Ruth Handy of
Greenwood; a brother, Roland Morris of Florida; five grandchildren, Bill, Todd,
Eva, Hannah and Zach; and nine great-grandchildren.

Margaret was a member of Big Run Baptist Church in Marion County until the
church building was donated to the Franklin Township Historical Society. She
started the Thread, Needle and Thimble Club and was active for more than 50
years. She was a member of the Quilt Club, Johnson County Home Economics Club of
Clark Township, Stamp Club and Doll Club.

She was a 4-H leader for a number of years and also served as a judge for the
pet and hobby category. She also served on the Farm Bureau Board.

She retired at 75 from J.C. Penney Co. after 25 years in retail sales.

The Rev. Phillip Morris will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wilson St.
Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St. Friends
may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Acton
Cemetery.
