RUTH DENTON HANDLEY - FRANKLIN
      Franklin resident Ruth Denton Handley, 83, died 
Tuesday at Johnson County Memorial Hospital in 
Franklin, where she had been a patient for one week.
      Born in Hensley Township in Johnson County 
June 15, 1903, she was the daughter of Samuel P. 
and Dosha (Anderson ) Denton.
      She married J. Robert Handley Aug. 22, 1923.  
He preceded her in death Sept. 6, 1986.
      A 1921 graduate of Trafalgar High School, she 
also attended Franklin College.
      Mrs. Handley had worked as a secretary in 
the Johnson County Assessor’s Office during the 
term of her father-in-law, James E. Handley.  She 
also worked as a saleslady for Swanks in Franklin.
      She was a member of the First Presbyterian 
Church in Franklin, a 62 year member of American 
Legion Auxiliary and past president of Beta Tau 
Sigma Sorority.
      A service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at 
Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home, Franklin, where 
friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight.  Burial 
will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, 
with the Rev. James Shaffer officiating. 
      Survivors include a daughter, Sue Carolyn 
Handley of San Francisco, Calif.; a brother 
James Joseph Denton, San Leandro, Calif.; a sister, 
Shirley Forsyth of Franklin, and one grandchild.
      She also was preceded in death by an infant 
son and a brother.
