HALSTEAD RITES HELD

AT HOPEWELL CHURCH

Impressive funeral services were held from the Hopewell church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Mrs. Lavinia Halstead, widow of Albert Halstead and for many years a resident of Johnson County, who died unexepectedly Sunday mornig at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edgar McCaslin.

Many friends from all sections of the county and from Indianapolis where Mrs. Halstead lived for sever­al years, were present for the funeral services which were conduc­ted by Rev. J. B. Ferguson, pastor of the Hopewell church where Mrs. Halstead had been an interested member during the past year. Other friends unable to attend the services had called at the McCaslin home Monday and Monday evening.

During the services several of the favorite hymns were sung by the Hopewell Male Quartet, composed of Herbert Kinnear, Mark VanNuys, Cort Ditmars and Henry Demaree. Casket bearers were the five sons, Earl, Roy, Roscoe, Lewis and Oscar Halstead, and the son-in-law, Edgar McCaslin. Flowers were carried by the grandchildren, Mrs. Hazel Steele, Elizabeth McCaslin, Mrs. Reba Clair, Ruth Halstead, Louise McCaslin, Doris Halstead, Robert Halstead, Rosemary Halstead, Loren Albert, Halstead [sic], Hattie Bell Halstead, Walter Scott Halstead, Irene Steele, Harold Halstead, Norma Halstead, and Bradford Steele.

While the burial service was in progress at Greenlawn cemetery an airplane for the Fort Harrison field at Indianapolis circled over the cemetery and a number of flowers were showered over the grave, The plane was piloted by Lt. Lawrence Genero, co-pilot in the recent endur­ance flight at Indianapolis. The visit of the plane was in tribute to Lt. Earl Halstead, who is also a member of the reserve flying corps.
