DEATH OF J. T. GRUBBS.

––––––––

Prominent Citizen of Greenwood
Passes Away.

––––––––

Jas. T. Grubbs, Sr., formerly of Clark township, was born in Kentucky, and the third child of Jas. T. and Eliza Prentiss Grubbs of Ky. His father died May 21, 1884, his mother in 1880. Our subject was born in 1837, and died Feb 10, 1897, age 60 years.

Mr. Grubbs was united in marriage with Mildred A. Grubbs, a native of Christian county, Ky., June 7, 1860. To this union were born James T., August 29, 1861; John T., May 5, 1864; and Anna M., March 21, 1870. James T. is at present the head of the firm of J. T. Grubbs & Son’s large planing mill. The deceased was the senior partner of the firm. Anna is now the wife of Rev. Marr, a Christian minister of New Market, Mo.. John T. died some three years ago, a young man of promise, and at his death a worker in the church and superintendent of the Christian Sunday school.

Mr. Grubbs moved from Kentucky to Clark township in 1865 and by hard work he became the owner of 350 acres of land, about 200 acres under a state of good cultivation. In politics he was a straight out democrat, not radical. He was a well posted man, and until hindered by affliction, was a studious reader. He was disabled some five years ago by a paralytic stroke, and has since been unable to walk. He was a true friend, and a sociable, obliging neighbor. Of course he was burdened as all mortals are, with faults, but amid it all those who knew him best will say a fair man has departed. He was a dutiful son, a kind, indulgent father, and in many ways helped to make our world better. Peace to his ashes and memory.
