Death of Mrs. S. S. Gorby.

Mrs. Emma [sic] Gorby, wife of Prof. S. S. Gorby, died Sunday morning at one o’clock, at her home in East Franklin, after a lingering illness of consumption. During the last four months of her life she had been unable to leave her bed, yet bore up under her sufferings with patience and cheerfulness and with the delusive hope, so common in this affliction, that her health would ultimately be restored to her.

Mrs. Gorby was the daughter of Rev. W. L. Boston, a distinguished Baptist minister, now residing at Washington, Davies county, where he has long lived. She was born in Belmont county, Ohio, April 19, 1852, being at the time of her death in her forty-fourth year. She was married Oct 20, 1869, to Prof. Gorby at Orleans, Orange county. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Gorby resided at Lawrenceburg, Ind., from which place they moved to Franklin in 1891 where they have since resided. Deceased had been a member of the Baptist church since nine years of age, and all through life was closely identified with church work, being an earnest and faithful member and greatly beloved by all her associates. She was the mother of eight children all of whom are living. These are Thomas, Orin, Edgar, Leroy, Alva, May, Inez and Bernice Gorby. Her aged parents both are living at Washington this state. Besides those named above, three brothers survive; Charles and W. L. Boston, of Washington, and Frank Boston, of Oden.

The funeral took place at the residence, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. E. S. Gardiner, pastor of the First Baptist church, assisted by Rev. G. M. Smith, of the Methodist church.

A beautiful floral tribute consisting of white and pink carnations was placed upon the casket by the ladies of the Baptist church, as a token of their affection and regard. Interment took place at Greenlawn cemetery.
