      EDINBURGH - Gladys E. Gharst, 82, of Edinburgh, 
died Friday morning at Bartholomew County Hospital.
      She was a member of the Edinburgh United Methodist 
Church, Edinburgh Business Women, and Nineveh 
Eastern Star.
      Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Ray 
Chapman and the Rev. George Eagler at 10 a.m. Monday 
at the Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh.
      Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 
burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery.
     Mrs. Gharst was born Sept. 20, 1902, in Nineveh, 
the daughter of Asa B. and Mary Ann Sherman Cobb.  
She was married to Harry Gharst Feb. 3, 1921, and 
he survives.
      Other survivors include two sons, John D. Gharst 
of Cincinnati and Cleon E. Gharst of Edinburgh; two 
daughters, Betty Essex of Columbus and Ann Hathaway 
of Englewood, Fla.; a brother, Earl E. Cobb of Indianapolis; 
seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
