DEATH OF GEO. GARSHWILER.

––––––––

One of Johnson County’s Most Prom-
inent Citizens Passes Away.

George Garshwiler departed this life on the morning of Feb. 9, 1895, at eight o’clock, at his home two miles north of Trafalgar. He was born near Danville, Ky., Dec. 9, 1813. When about fifteen years of age, he with his mother and a younger brother, the late James Garshwiler, moved to this State and settled near the first Mt. Pleasant church in this county, where they cleared a piece of ground and made it ready for cultivation, showing that he was a man of great energy and industry. He was in many respects a remarkable man with a well-balanced mind, he succeeded where hundreds would have failed. He shrank from no duty. A leading characteristic of his life was his unbounded hospitality—kind to strangers, and his highest happiness seemed to consist in making all about him more happy. His ardent affection, agreeable disposition and cheerfulness endeared him to all. He was one of our most honorable and reliable men, a successful and model farmer, as his beautiful home surroundings indicate; having lived in the present home since about the year 1865. He was united in marriage with Nancy Lyster [sic], Feb. 2, 1832, with whom he lived happily until death. There were born to this union five children, one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Wyrick; and four sons, all of whom with their mother survive him. When about forty years of age, he united with the Christian church. His death was caused by heart disease, with some complications covering a period of almost three years. A kind husband, a fond father, and a good citizen has been taken from a large circle of relatives and friends, who mourn his death, but their loss is his gain, for he has doubtless gone where the weary are forever at rest. His funeral was preached at his late home by Elder J. C. Miller, Feb. 11, after which his remains were laid, by kind hands, in their last resting place in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
