Death of Orlando Furnas.

Orlando Furnas, the well-known miller of Blue River township died Tuesday night at 9:30 o’clock. His death was caused by anemia, or a lack of blood in the body. The supply was so small that for some time it had been necessary for Mr. Furnas to lie with his feet elevated so as to keep the blood in the vital parts of his body. His lips and gums became white as marble. The first serious illness from this disease was over a year ago, but he rallied and was again able to go about and look after his business. In April last, he again was attacked and gradually grew worse until death resulted.

Mr. Furnas has been a resident of Johnson county since 1875, when he bought what was then known as the Foster Mill, now known as Furnas’ Harvest City Mills. He was born in Clinton county, Ohio, and had been all his life engaged in the milling business, first in Ohio, next at different points in Marion county, one being at Bridgeport which was burned in 1860. Originally he was a Quaker, but for many years he had been a member of the Pisgah Methodist church. In 1883 he was elected representative from this county on the republican ticket. M. R. Slater and Jno. Clore being opposing candidates on the democratic ticket. While a resident of this county he was successful in business and established a reputation for honor and integrity. His acquaintance was large and his friends many.

The funeral takes place today, (Friday) at Pisgah M. E. church at 9 o’clock a.m. conducted by Rev. Sterrett and under the auspices of the Masonic order of which he was a member. Burial at Edinburg.
