John Drake Dead.

John Drake, aged sixty-three, died Wednesday afternoon at five o’clock of an unknown trouble, but something akin to cancer of the stomach. Mr. Drake was a well-known resident of this city and by his death Greensburg and Decatur County loses a good citizen.

Mr. Drake was born in Johnson County, near Franklin, sixty-three years ago the first day of last January, and moved to this city in 1853, since which time he has been a resident here. He was a member of the [blot] church and leaves a widow and five children, four sons and a daughter. For about three years, Mr. Drake has been in very poor health, a cancer being suspected as the cause. He kept gradually going down, and for ninety-three days prior to his death had been confined to the house.

As a result of the autopsy held on the body of John Drake Thursday it was learned that he died from a cancerous tumor affecting the entire abdominal regions.

The funeral of Mr. Drake was held from the residence on North Franklin Street, Friday at two o’clock, Rev. W. P. Barnhill and Rev. J. B. Lathrop officiating. The burial was in the South Park cemetery. —Greensburg New Era. [Greensburg, Decatur County, Indiana]
