Our community was saddened last Monday evening upon hearing the sad intelligence that Mrs. George Demaree had suddenly died at LaPorte. She left here for that place on last Tuesday, a week ago, in her usual health for the purpose of visiting her sister, who resided there. A dispatch was received here on last Monday, stating that she was seriously ill with hernia, which had long troubled her, upon the receipt of which her son, Charles, accompanied by Dr. H. J. Hall, left immediately for her bedside, but upon their arrival found her spirit had departed at 3 o’clock that afternoon. Her remains were brought here Tuesday afternoon. The funeral services took place at the Presbyterian church, of which she was a faithful member, on Wednesday afternoon and was largely attended. Mrs. Demaree was a true Christian woman, and was universally beloved in her church and among her large circle of friends. To her bereaved husband and sorrowing relatives the sympathy of our community goes out in this, their hour of affliction.
