Grim Death’s Deeds

Mrs. Dr. A. T. Davis, of Edinburg, died early on Wednesday morning, of consumption, from which she had for a long time been a sufferer. Mrs. Davis formerly resided in this city. She was a lady refined and much esteemed for her excellent traits of character. The funeral will be held from the Christian church, Edinburg, today. Dr. Davis lost a daughter only a very few years ago from the same dread disease.

Mrs. Dr. A. T. Davis; died at her home in Edinburg at 4:40 o’clock Wednesday morning, after a lingering illness of consumption. The deceased formerly lived in this city and was a highly respected Christian lady and had many friends here. The funeral services will be held today at the Christian church in Edinburg.

The 1880 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana records forty-three-year-old, Kentucky-born physician Tiffin A. Davis, his forty-four-year-old, Kentucky-born wife Martha Davis, and their Indiana-born children, nineteen-year-old Anna, sixteen-year-old Etta, fourteen-year-old Thomas, eleven-year-old Carrie and four-year-old Georgie Davis.
Illinois Deaths and Stillbirths, 1916–1947, database, records that when sixty-one-year-old, Indiana-born Thomas L. Davis died on 24 Jan 1929 in Springfield, Sangamon, Illinois, his parents were listed as Amos Tiffen Davis and Martha Anna Jones (citing Public Board of Health, Archives, Springfield; FHL microfilm 1642978).
