Ambrose Davenport died last Sat­urday from the effects of a cancerous tumor of the large intestine. He was born in Jennings county, December 20, 1824, and in 1825 his parents moved to Hensley township, Johnson county. In 1844, he was married to N. J. Boles and to this union eight children were born, five boys and three girls, of whom five are still living. His second marriage was to Mrs. Amelia Prichard in 1870. Since 1854 he had been a member of the Baptist church and al­ways took an active part up to the time of his illness. He was a Democrat of the old Jacksonian type, esteemed and honored by all who knew him as an honest and upright citizen. His funeral took place Monday, the 29th, burial in the Baptist cemetery two miles east of here. Elder J. H. Wolfington conducted the services.
