WHITELAND
Virgil Alvin Coy
      Virgil Alvin Coy, 80, 
died Sunday at his family 
farm in Whiteland.  He 
was a resident of White-
land and formerly resided 
in the Camp Atterbury 
area.
      He was born Nov. 12, 
1915, in Bartholomew 
County.  His parents were 
Wilbur and Jettie Stout Coy.  
He was married to Grace 
Mills on Sept. 13, 1934, 
in Union Christian Church 
south of Franklin.  She 
survives.  He is also sur-
vived by a son, Kenneth 
L. Coy of Franklin; two 
grandsons, Kevin Coy of 
Whiteland and David Coy 
of New Castle; one grand-
daughter, Kathy Pittman 
of Greenwood; one sister, 
Marjorie Ward of Franklin; 
four great-grandchildren; 
and three step great-
grandchildren.  He was 
preceded in death by 
one granddaughter, Susan 
Coy.
      He attended Nineveh 
schools.
      He was a lifelong 
farmer and worked as a 
salesman at Deer& Son 
Hardware in Franklin and 
Ralph Caplinger Hardware 
in Bargersville for four 
years.
      He was a member of 
Community Congregational 
Church, where he was a 
former Trustee, Deacon 
and a member of the 
Senior Booster Sunday 
School Class.
      He was former dir-
ector of the Johnson County 
Co-op and past chairman 
of Pleasant Township Farm 
Bureau.
      The Rev. Paul Doriani 
will conduct a funeral service 
at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Van-
divier-Tudor Funeral Home 
in Franklin.  Friends may 
call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tues-
day at the funeral home.  
Burial will be at Forest 
Lawn Memory Gardens in 
Greenwood.
      Memorial contributions 
may be sent to the Memorial 
Fund of Community Congre-
gational Church, 4592 Hurricane 
Road, Franklin, Ind. 46131.
