OBITUARY.

Hess Cottle was born Oct. 8, 1869, near Trafalgar, Ind. He learned the plasterers trade when 12 years-old, under Abram Ream, now living at Edinburg, Ind., which trade he followed the rest of his life. He was truly converted Nov. 1887, and joined the Baptist church, and has ever since been a devoted christian. His father died Feb. 19th, 1888, leaving a wife and four little boys of whom Hess was next to the eldest, thetefore [sic] it fell on Hess and his brother, Alonzo, who was but 16 months older, to support the family by their daily work. He was united in marriage with Blanch L. Voris, Sunday, June 23, 1889. They resided in Trafalgar until July 27, 1889, from which they moved to Indianapolis, which has been their home to the present time. While at Trafalgar they lived with her mother, and when they moved to Indianapolis her mother, being a widow, would have been leftalone [sic] had it not been for the kindness of her daughter and son-in-law. They gave her a home most welcome and happy until her marriage to Mr. Thomas A. Pearce, Sept. 3, 1891, during which time Hess never uttered an unkind work [sic], but was always loving, kind and true.

Their only child, little Fern, was born April 16th, 1894, her mother being an invalid from her birth, during which time he has been both father and mother to the little babe, and sacrificed everything in trying to restore his wife to her health, thinking that in a few years their lives would be prosperous and happy once more.

He died Jan. 18, 1896, at the home of Mr. Thomas A. Pearce, of Champion, Ind., where he had come but one week before to make a short visit. He leave an invalid wife and a little child to mourn their loss.

One great consolation in his dying hour was the promise of his father- and mother-in-law that they would give his wife and child as pleasant a home as it is in their power to give.
