Woman Killed In Accident
      Mrs. Catherine Demaree Coffman, a native of the 
Hopewell community, was reported killed in a San Jose, 
Calif., traffic accident this morning.
      She is the wife of Paul Y. Coffman and the daughter 
of Serril Demaree, of Franklin, and the late Hazel 
Thompson Demaree.

Former Hopewell Resident Killed; Rites to Be Here
      Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Irene Coffman, 
who died in San Jose, Calif., Monday morning, will be 
conducted in a funeral home there at 11 o'clock 
Wednesday morning.
      The body will then be brought to the Flinn and 
Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin for services. 
Arrangements are incomplete.  Burial is to be made 
in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
      Mrs. Coffman was killed early Monday morning 
when she was struck by a car while crossing a street, 
on her way to work.  Further details are not known 
here at this time.
Born At Hopewell
      The daughter of Serril and the late Hazel Thompson 
Demaree, Mrs. Coffman was born in the Hopewell com-
munity on June 19, 1908.  She was educated in the Hopewell 
schools, graduating from the high school there.
      She became the bride of Paul Y. Coffman at Hopewell 
in August, 1929, and eight children were born to them.
      Mrs. Coffman had spent her life in Johnson and 
Brown counties before going to California five years ago.  
After going to California, she had been employed at 
nursing and was on her way to care for a patient in a 
private home at the time of the accident.
      She was a member of the Hopewell United Presby-
terian church.
      The survivors with the husband are two sons and 
six daughters and include, David Coffman, of Helmsburg; 
John Coffman, of California, Mrs. John (Janice) Lee, of 
Campbell, Calif.; Mrs. Fritz (Barbara) Islen, of Detroit, 
Mich.; Mrs. Ray (Sandra) Wesley, Mrs Richard (Catherine 
Ann) Bonsett, of Indianapolis; Miss Paulette Coffman 
and Miss Cheryl Coffman, of San Jose.
      Others who remain are the father, of Hopewell com-
munity; a brother, Mark Demaree, of Rowayton, Conn.;
 a sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Helen Frances) Elliott, of Warsaw;
 and 13 grandchildren.
