Marcella B. Cobb

Marcella B., Cobb, 96, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Home­view Center in Photo Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin, had lived in White­land since 1946 and had lived in the Johnson Coun­ty area most of her life.

She was born Feb. 10, 1905, in Johnson County. Her parents were Emmett and Marcia (Adams) Pritchard. She married Harold Britton Cobb on Sept. 5 1926 in Florida. He preceded her in death Aug. 27, 1979. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Louise Wise of Plymouth, Susan Ann Moeller of Indianapolis and Sandra Jean Kelly of Whiteland; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grand children. She was preceded in death by a son, William Francis Cobb; a brother; Edgar Emmons Pritchard; three sisters, Margaret Irene Anderson, Adeline Lucille Maguire and Francis Jean O'Hara; and a grandson, John Surber.

She graduated from high school in Mississippi and was a 1926 graduate of Franklin College. She taught school both in Florida and Johnson County and served as the Johnson County attendance officer for many years before retiring in 1968. She also worked at the Indiana Gross Income Tax Division in Indianapolis for a short time.

She was a charter member of Community Congregational Church in Franklin, a member of Nineveh Christian Church in 1944 and active in Whiteland Presbyterian Church since 1946. She was very active in Johnson County Church Women United and was president of the Lord’s Cupboard.

She was member for more than 50 years and past worthy matron of Nineveh Order of Eastern Star 466, a member of the Whiteland Home Economics Club and a past county president of the Johnson County Extension Homemakers. She was the first president of the Whiteland PTA. She was a member of the Beta Theta Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, and remained active for many years in both the sorority and Franklin College activities. She received a Merit Award in 1970 for outstanding service to the fraternity, the Helen Winton Jenkins Alumnae Award in 1981 and a Franklin College Alumni Citation Award in 1984. She was in the county, state and national retired teacher’s associations. She was past president of the American Association of University Women and was also area representative for Franklin College and was a recipient of the Kiwanis Country Life Award.

She served on the Red Cross Executive Board, was active in Johnson County Arts Association and served as vice chairman of the Johnson County Democrat Central Committee for more than 20 years.

Pastor Charles Stanley will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin. Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
