Lucy Clark, age eight years, daughter of James Clark, colored, was severely burned Sunday morning by her clothes catching fire from a lamp. Death re-sulted Monday night from her injuries.

Note: 1900 U.S. Census for Franklin Johnson County records 8 year old Lucy Clark living at home with her parents James 39, Bell 33, and her siblings John 14, and Jesse Clark, 12.

Note: The Johnson County Indiana WPA Death Index, 1882-1920, page 35, referencing Book H-19, page 37, records that Lucy Clark, an 8 year old colored (black), female, died 3 Dec 1900 in Franklin.

Note: Indiana State Board of Health Certificate of Death No. 44-167 for Franklin Johnson County records that Lucy Clark, black female, age 8y, born May, 1892, died on December 3 1900 in Franklin. She was listed as "School Girl". The cause of death was "Burning" of 15 hours duration. She was the daughter of James Clark and Lou Sanders, both of Kentucky. The informant was James Clark, and she was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Johnson County.
