Trafalgar Man
Killed in Crash

A Trafalgar farmer became the 14th traffic death victim in Johnson County about 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon one and one half miles south of Franklin on Road 31 when his automobile was struck in rear by a car driven by a Columbus resident.

J. Wilber Clark, 77, Trafalgar route 1, was dead on arrival at Methodist hospital in Indianapolis about 6:20 o’clock Thursday night. He died of a fractured skull, authorities said.

The car which struck the north-bound Clark automobile was a 1960 Chevrolet Corvair, driven by Herman G. Davis, 23, Route 1. Davis was in fair condition at Robert Long hospital in Indianapolis with a fractured jaw, nose and ribs.

State Trooper John W. Means of Whiteland said Clark was driving his 1950 Plymouth car north on Road 31 when it was struck in the rear by the Davis car.

Turned on Top

Trooper Means said in his report that there was no apparent reason for the Davis car striking the Clark car and that Davis’ auto traveled 435 feet from the impact point before coming to a halt. Mr. Clark’s car turned over on its top.

Assisting in investigation of the accident were State Police Cpl. Robert Konkle and State Trooper J. M. Roseberry, both of Bartholomew County. Coroner Walker Maguire of Johnson County also was called.

Funeral services will be at Edinburg Methodist church at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery. The casket is open at the Emerson Clark funeral home in Morgantown.

He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Cora Clark; two daughters, Mrs. Beulah Dinn and Mrs. Marjorie Mahoney of Darin, Conn.; two sons, Merrill Clark of Nineveh and Maurice Clark of Trafalgar; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was the son of John and Arsula Jordan Clark, born June 12, 1883. He married Miss Cora Coy Jan. 31, 1909.
