==============================

Elijah Church was born August 22, 1812 in Forsythe [sic] County, North Carolina, and died in Johnson County, Indiana, August 20, 1900, aged 87 years, 11 months and 28 days. The deceased moved from North Carolina to his home in Indiana in 1859. He was a farmer by trade. He was married to Miss Louisa Waldriben September 8, 1840. To this union were born seven children, four boys and three girls. Five are still living: Isaac L., Martha, Irvin, Susie and Johnnie. Very many years ago Mr. and Mrs. Church united with the M. E. church at Salem. Later they transferred their membership to the U. B. church at Bethel. In his last days Mr. Church assured his children that he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and he believed in a blissful immortality. Mr. Church’s poverty continually embarrassed him and was the cause for his nonappearance before the public and his deprivations of many enjoyments common to the public. His funeral took place at Mt. Auburn church and his body was laid away in Glenn’s Valley cemetery.
