William R. Burton

Former Morgantown resident William Russell Burton died Saturday, October 17, 1998, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. A resident of that city, he was 68.

Mr. Burton was born May 7, 1930, in Richmond to George Lewis Bur­ton and Hassie Elizabeth Atkins.

He and Joyce Joan Minor were married October 27, 1950, in Richmond. She survives.

Mr. Burton had worked as a truck driver for Sodrel Truck Lines in Indianapolis for 38 years, retiring in 1991.

He had owned the Boot Hill Shoe Store in Morgantown from 1983 until 1991.

Mr. Burton was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church at Trafalgar.

He enjoyed fishing and wood­working.

Other survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Diane Hydell of Mooresville, KaAnne Marie Short of Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Amy Lynette Rieger of Indianapolis; a son, David William Burton of Franklin; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Mr. Burton was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Miller in 1997; and a brother, Lewis Maynard Burton.

The Reverend Ed Pearson led a service Tuesday, October 20, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.

Burial was in that city’s East Hill Cemetery.

William Russell Burton

William Russell Burton, 68, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin and was a former resident of Morgantown.

He was born May 7, 1930, in Rich­mond. His parents were George Lewis and Hassie Elizabeth (Atkins) Burton. He married Joyce Joan (Minor) Burton on Oct. 27, 1950, in Richmond. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Diane Hydell of Mooresville, KaAnne Marie Short of Hopkinsville and Amy Lynette Rieger of Indianapolis; one son, David William Burton of Franklin; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was pre­ceded in death by one daughter, Linda Miller; and one brother, Lewis Maynard Burton.

He was a truck driver for Sodrel Truck Lines in Indianapolis for 38 years. He retired in 1991. He also own­ed Boothill Shoe Store in Morgantown from 1983 to 1991.

He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Trafalgar. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

The Rev. Ed Pearson will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. to­day at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
