The Reverend Frank Burkhart Jr., a founder of Locust Grove Pentecostal Church near Spearsville, has died.

Mr. Burkhart died Thursday, January 22, 1998, at Todd-Aikens Health Care Center in Franklin. He Photo was 74.

He had lived on Peoga Road.

Mr. Burkhart was born March 26, 1923, in Clay County, Kentucky to Frank and Mal­lie York Burkhart.

He and Marie Roberts were married December 2, 1946, in London, Kentucky. She survives in Brown County.

Mr. Burkhart moved to Indiana from Kentucky in 1952.

He had worked as a mechanic for Mayflower Transit Company in Indianapolis for 22 years, retiring in 1974.

After founding Locust Grove Church in 1960, he served as the church’s pastor for 37 years.

Mr. Burkhart was an avid fox hunter.

He had served with the 192nd Military Police in the United States Army.

Other survivors include two sons, Eddie R. Burkhart of Trafalgar and Oscar H. Burkhart of Monroe, Georgia; two daughters, Linda S. Johnson and Vickie L. Griffie, both of Trafalgar; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers. Earnest Burkhart of Lily, Kentucky, Delbert Burkhart of Hamilton, Ohio, and Offard Burkhart of Nineveh; and a sister, Hazel Wyatt of Trafalgar.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, John Burkhart, Felix Burkhart, Arnold Burkhart, and Estelle Burkhart.

A service was conducted Sunday, January 25, at Locust Grove Church on Peoga Road.

Burial was in Morgantown’s East Hill Cemetery.

Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown was in charge of arrangements.
