Death of Mrs. Matilda Branch.

Mrs. Matilda M. Branch, the oldest lady living in Franklin, died Saturday morning at 11 o’clock at her home on east Jefferson Street. She was born in Virginia, April 1, 1805, and at the time of her death lacked but six weeks of being 91 years old. When a child she moved with her parents, J. G. Ashburn and wife, to Kentucky where she was afterward married to Benjamin Branch. In 1844 Mr. and Mrs. Branch came to Johnson County and settled in Hensley township. The husband died about sixteen years ago. Mrs. Branch continued to reside in Hensley Township until a few years ago when she moved to this city. Deceased early became a member of the Christian church at Trafalgar and continued to hold her membership there until her death. Two children survive her—Mrs. Samuel Brown, of this city, and Newton Branch, now residing in Kansas.

The funeral took place in the Christian church in this place, Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock, conducted by Rev. John C. Miller, assisted by Elder J. C. Ashley. A large concourse of relatives and friends attended the services. Deceased was a most estimable lady and the record of her long life is one filled with good deeds of love and devotion.

UNION.

––––––

It is with no small degree of sadness that we announce the death of Matilda Branch. Her death occurred Feb. 22d at her home in Franklin. She was buried at the Mullikin cemetery Monday afternoon. Aunt Tib, as she was called, was formerly a resident of Union, and was a charter member of the Christian church. She was faithful and loyal to her master and the church, endearing all to her with whom she was associated. She moved from this neighborhood to Trafalgar in 1864. Though but few of our young people knew her, yet many have learned to love her through their mothers, who always spoke so kindly of Aunt Tib.
